You’re approaching your due date and starting to pack your hospital bag. The question on your mind is how long you’ll be staying at the hospital after birth and how many clothes you need to pack.
Your maternity package
The odds are that you would have taken a maternity package at one of the hospitals in Singapore. Most of the hospitals offer a standard package for mothers-to-be. They typically include:
- Two nights for a normal vaginal birth
- Three nights for a caesarean section birth
Length of stay in the hospital after birth for a vaginal delivery
The length of stay in the hospital after birth is usually very short for a normal vaginal birth, as the body recovers quickly after labour. In fact, many mothers are ready to be discharged just hours after birth or just the next day. If you don’t have a package and wish to save money, you could consider staying just one night.
However, it is not a bad idea to stay longer if you can afford it. At the hospital, you can get more help from the nurses with breastfeeding. You should also use the opportunity to sleep as much as you can since you won’t be getting much at home.
