The 7th week is likely the time that you would have paid a first visit to your OBGYN for a viability scan and a blood test. How exciting!
What’s happening to your body right now:
Similar to 6 weeks, your body may not have changed much on the outside yet, but your uterus has doubled in size to accommodate your growing baby. Your baby is now about the size of a blueberry or a garbanzo bean.
You may have also started noticing changes to your skin. It’s not uncommon for pregnant women to have zits or for their complexion to change from oily to dry or vice versa. You might also start to notice the appearance of varicose veins due to the increased blood flow. Excess saliva secretion is also extremely normal.
With regards to emotions, similar to week 6, it’s not odd to find yourself dealing with extreme emotions right now caused by your fluctuating hormones.
How your Embryo is developing during pregnancy week by week:
In theory your baby is still an embryo because it has the remains of a small tail, which will disappear in the next few weeks. However, that’s the only thing that is shrinking. Your baby’s mouth, tongue and eyelid folds are forming, as arm and leg buds sprout, and those little kidneys are getting ready to do their job. And he’s started to move in small, jerky motion as he twitches his tiny trunk and limb buds. His brain has also started developing and he’s generating about one hundred new brain cells each minute!
What you can do right now:
If you have yet to start, it’s important to take Folic Acid right now. A daily supplement of about 400grams is recommended.
At about this time, you will start to feel bloated and some of your clothes might not fit as well as before. It’s the perfect excuse for you to go shopping! You might want to get clothes that are more stretchy before jumping into maternity wear, because the latter might come in handy only later when you come into 8 weeks.
