There are many do’s and don’ts during pregnancy. Restrictions on food and drink are probably the toughest to take on board. Unfortunately, harmful drinks for pregnant women can sometimes be overlooked.
Cutting out your favourite beverages may sound no fun, but it is with good reason. They can be dangerous to you and your baby. Some drinks are okay in moderation and other should be avoided completely. Here is a list of harmful drinks for pregnant women.
Women are warned not to drink alcohol for good reason as alcohol passes straight into your baby’s body and can damage its brain and organ development. All forms of alcohol, not just hard liquors, can contribute to the risks, including beers, ciders and coolers.
However, many doctors and midwives consider it safe to drink a small amount of wine, such as a glass of wine on occasion. For centuries, European women have taken a little wine with their meals with no pregnancy problems. In Singapore, many women also drink DOM during pregnancy and consider it therapeutic.
